Meet Turnley
As a Northport resident of 19 years, I'm running for City Council District 1 because I believe our city is ready for a stronger, more citizen-focused future. My confidence stems from a unique blend of education, professional experience, and a deep passion for Northport, all aimed at fostering a truly citizen-minded council.
I've been happily married to my wife for 25 years, and we're blessed with two wonderful children.
My vision for Northport centers on smart, responsible growth that prioritizes our existing businesses and citizens. While new businesses are always welcome, we must never forget those who have built our community. I am committed to establishing multiple layers of transparency, ensuring Northport operates as a city for its people, not just the council. We must also continue to support our exceptional First Responders by focusing on competitive training and compensation to ensure the longevity and well-being of our Fire and Police Departments.
My qualifications for this role are rooted in a strong educational background and extensive professional experience. I hold a Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Interior Architecture, and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design from Auburn University’s College of Architecture Design and Construction. Early in my career, I honed my skills at a local architect firm before successfully running my own Northport-based full-service Design-Build firm for over 17 years. Currently, I serve as the Deputy Director of Building and Inspections for The City of Tuscaloosa, an experience that provides invaluable insight into municipal operations and urban planning.
Having traveled extensively, I've observed firsthand how cities worldwide are planned and how their citizens interact with their environments. This global perspective, combined with my love for Northport, reinforces my belief that we can build an even better community together. I am honored to call Northport home and am eager to contribute my expertise to its continued success.
